The world is changing at neck-breaking pace. Opinions are shifting in different directions and it is becoming more difficult to identify with individuals who adhere to the old standards of morality that appear archaic to a burgeoning moral system. The leaders of today study trends and patterns in order to keep tempo with the rest of the world. They logically conclude that if they do not change, and both methodologies and taboos are not destroyed, there can be no progress. People continue to encroach up the line of demarcation, yet few oppose this egregious action. The gradual conditioning of our generation’s mass mind has prepared it for the societal changes without objection. There is a sense of camaraderie among those whose moral judgments keep them separated from others who remain indifferent to moral dilemmas. The question on the table is, “now that we have gotten these things out of the way, where are we headed?” This is a generation that has greater freedoms to do as they please, but lack direction to do what is wise. When we settle on hedonistic pursuits rather than what is right, we create a recipe for disaster. Once guiding principles are absent from our…

When will the last shoe drop? How far down do we have to go with unquestioned allegiance to a deteriorating system before we ask the thought provoking questions of those who maintained an awakened conscience? The music and the song of the world have lulled the masses to sleep and, while they are anesthetized, an unassuming lobotomy removes the sense of reasoning from the minds of the people. The course has navigated them to a new place of tolerance where anything goes. After reading the newspaper or listening to the news report, one can see how current events are leading us down the primrose path of disaster, destruction, and ruin. All of these things are working together for the worse possible scenario and not for the good of those who wish to maintain the standard of righteousness. The message from the pulpit has shifted to a soothing voice reflecting the consensus opinions of those who want nothing more than the possessions of others. It is not merely gays in the military with the U.N.’s unprecedented acceptance of the position of the Human Rights Commission as being the primary issue. We live in a social climate where none of these things…

Faith is typically defined by the religious as a means of interpreting reality. They choose a set of rules to govern their lives from a plethora of ideas and opinions and then seek a group of people with similar beliefs and interests. Their opinion of God is usually a system of established principles, and tragically, many disregard the exploration of depth or passion for intimacy. God is static and the people remain unchanged, but still religious. When faith is merely a mode and method of tolerating life rather than living it, there is little wonder why many youth and young adults reject the faith of their fathers. They rebel against convention, making their declaration of independence from the deadness of what they inherited. Today, the hearts of many are challenged to believe that there has to be something more than this mediocre expression of religion. Unfortunately, their faith often causes them to turn inward to ambition and self-delusion. “If there is nothing out there to believe in, then I must believe in myself,” has become the requiem of today’s generation. Movements toward a belief that God dwells within every human have deceived many into believing that there is no God….

“The earth is violently broken, the earth is split open; the earth is shaken exceedingly.” Isaiah 24:17 The Earth is violently disturbed as the result of the egregious offenses measured against its Creator. God takes personal offense to the charges leveled against Him when His judgments are overturned by manmade decisions. Yes, we possess the ability to decide what we want for ourselves and arbitrarily arrive at what are seemingly practical conclusions. But the consequences far outweigh the temporary benefit derived by those who offend God. It begins with the kings of the earth, those chosen leaders that determine our future. Political decisions extend beyond the limits of mere politics, where the influence and power of a leader may sway popular opinion in a direction where vices appear to be virtues. This transformation first materializes under the category of toleration, moving from tolerance to a celebration of a new ideal. Ultimately, the celebration translates into some strange worship of an unknown deity that replaces the True and Living God. Should we be surprised when the Earth rebels in reaction to what takes place on its surface that defies its Creator? Scripture supports the premise that just as the prophets and…

With all of the uncertainties facing our future and the surmounting challenges with the smothering appearance to even snuff out every bit of life that yet remains, the Light continues to burn. There is hope awaiting our embrace. This hope has more to give us than what we are able to contribute. Yes, we are to preserve the spirit of optimism in spite of the challenges. We are to remain positive for the sake of our own countenance. But sometimes it is hard when it appear as if the last shoe is about to drop. What if the worst possible situation we would imagine was to occur? Would it still be within our abilities to speak of good things awaiting us on the other side of it? If we are attempting to manage our own lives independent of God, we would be fatalists in deep despair or optimistic dreamers living in a fantasy world created by our own imaginations.  It is time to be honest with ourselves. Things are getting worse. People are becoming more desperate, and our security is being threatened. Yet God stands in the midst of this present darkness and confusion with an eternal truth. If may…

August 7, 2007, author Anne Rice, best known for her vampire novels, made waves last week when she declared on her Facebook page that she had “quit being a Christian.” Twelve years after her return to Catholicism, Rice said she still believed in God, but that, “In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life.” – Los Angeles Times My take on this is like saying, “I will quit my Maker! I will now reject the God of the Bible and worship a god that I can agree with.” If salvation is the end, the criteria for it is not optional. Even though many make their decisions on the basis of what is compatible with their habits and lifestyles, the heart must be drawn to the Lord and His agenda and not the intellectual pitfalls regarding philosophy of life and religion. To quit the Church is like quitting the human race and saying, “I don’t like the way humans are treated so I’ve decided to be…

As our first teachers, our mothers taught us how to walk, how to talk, how and what to feel, and how to love by loving us with a special kind of love. Her love was unconditional. Even when there was nothing to support it, she loved you just because she was your mother and you were her child. On the cross before Jesus surrendered His spirit into the hands of His Father, He told John, “Behold thy mother”. i.e.; “take care of my mother and treat her as your own. Be the son to her that I was in my absence.” His role was to fill what would otherwise be a void in her life. But suppose the conditions were opposite: who would be the kind of mother that Mary was to Jesus? Yes, one may have friends who express a platonic love for each other, but the depth of a mother’s love is a category exclusive to one who is able to reflect upon your history. Regardless of what you may do or become in life, she still remembers her little baby boy or darling baby girl. We would often wish that she would let us grow up, even…

The life, death, burial, resurrection, appearance, and ascension of Jesus Christ have significance that appeals to aspects of our lives with the intention of transforming us from broken vessels into whole beings. Wholeness is a life with an awareness of purpose, free from the paralyzing worries, with a hope of a bright and endless future. When one is torn between what he is and who is to become without guidance, the experimentation contributes to the frustration. The effectual work of Jesus Christ in the life of a sinner provides for a continual and progressive change to a state of wholeness. To say that one is a sinner is often the hardest to realize, but here the journey begins. The Bible says in the book of Romans that “all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God.” This verse associates humanity with the practice of sinning and further illustrates the innate nature of man’s rebellion against God. God became man in the Person of Jesus Christ to show us how to live. The Law was given to present the standard but did not possess the power. Jesus Christ came to contradict their limited and faulty interpretations of the…

What has happened when it appears as if everything has gone wrong? The economic collapse occurring on Wall Street reminds us of our dependency on the success of businesses in order to maintain the jobs to keep everybody working. When those who wish to work have jobs; they have money. When they have money they are able to buy both the necessities and the luxuries of life. What is the cause of the dry spell affecting not only the United States of America, but the entire world? The numbers of foreclosures have saturated the housing market. The long lines of the unemployed, inclusive of many who are overly qualified for remedial jobs, have reached astronomical proportions. The lack of income and the lack of jobs have set in motion a domino effect contributing to the increase in crime. The increase in crime places a need for added security measures to be taken. The threat of life and property create an environment of fear and anxieties. These among other factors make us fully aware that this is not the same world that we lived in just a few years ago.   When it becomes apparent that we are on a downward…
