“Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.” Luke 17:37

The vultures gather together around dead bodies. Theirs is to devour the decaying flesh and ruin. They have a victory party before their feast with every intention to consume everything that is left unattended. Where Jesus died is the gathering place of demons and devils. Without His presence and power at work, each one can do as he pleases and have its way against the Way of God. A crowd alone is not the determinant of blessings and prosperity. Funerals draw larger crowds than prayer meetings. Some gather to devour the flesh of the dead and wounded on the battlefield of faith. Their stand, though unpopular, was consistent even to resist the temptations of compromise. While some may pursue optional methods of approaching God, they have stood with Him even to their own injury and ruin. His sufferings have become their own sufferings because His business was their business. But Jesus arose from the dead and His Body did not see corruption. There was nothing for vultures to consume. He is the Living Bread freely given to all who will partake of Him. The vultures gather in their places awaiting His death. But the saints gather in our place celebrating His life as the Body of Christ which came forth through His death into eternal life.

Meditation: July 3

“I am God, your personal God who rescued you from Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I ripped off the harness of your slavery so that you can move about freely.” Leviticus 26:13 (MSG)

God identifies with us and calls us His own. In order for us to experience the blessings of communion, there had to be a divine rescue. The attachments of old held us as slaves to another. It was our condition and geographical location. We were in our Egypt and joined to the culture of Egypt. What where once were was so much a part of us that our objective was to further conform to what we were able to see. But God’s love sought us out and reminded us that we were in a place that we did not belong. The dissatisfaction within our souls not to settle was His mercy and grace reaching down to the lowest parts in order to lift us up above the slavery of Egypt. Then He ripped the harness off our necks enabling us to move about freely. Now that we have been set free after having been given the will to be free, let us not return to the house of bondage. We are now free to worship and free to serve God with our whole heart, soul, and strength. We have been freed that we may move freely.

Meditation: June 14

“By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Proverbs 24:4

The knowledge of God is the principle thing to be attained by all who would be wise. We are built up as the House of God and the Household of Faith. God Himself is to inhabit what the Holy Spirit is establishing as His permanent residence. This has to do with our personal identity and corporate identity. We are made wise to consider how the Church is interdependent and must function as the Body of Christ. It is through our unity that we are rightly constructed. Then each part contributes to the growth of every part. Never should we become exclusive in our endeavors to please God. The small portion given to the part will only inflate the ego and eliminate it from receiving the blessings of God’s promise. If the rooms are too filled with precious and pleasant riches, each room must allow Jesus Christ in that He might rearrange the furnishings, discard of the rubbish, and restore what is broken. When the fragrance of His Presence fills the room, life leading to life is the aroma of life. All is most precious because He determines the value of what He puts in place.

May 2015 Article: “Behold Your Mother”

“When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” (27) Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.” John 19:26-27

This is a story of adoption. It is the transference of love and care by a son to a beloved friend. It is also having a new son to fill the void created through the loss of a beloved son. Throughout this exchange, love is the primary theme as mother and son/ son and mother are connected in a new relationship. The background is the cross, while Jesus, the Son of God, pronounces His blessings upon them while enduring His greatest crisis. He did not merely focus upon His current condition, but looked ahead at the future needs of His best friend and His mother. Those who love Jesus also love the objects of His affection. He felt at ease that the treatment of His mother would be the same as He would have treated her.

This scene illustrates to us the duality of the expression of true love. True love fills a need, but at the same time, love creates a need. What is poured forth from the heart must not leave a vacuum. The empty feeling experienced by loving without reciprocation leads to deep frustration and pain. A mother will carry a child for months with the anticipation of nurturing and providing for her bundle of joy. But if she miscarries before her child reaches full term, no outlet is available for her to express all of the stymied emotions of love and care. Her love requires an object where she can display her affection. To those mothers whose pregnancy was aborted by circumstances beyond their control or a decision that they now regret, Jesus provides an outlet by allowing one to adopt another to replace what may be absent.

The pain suffered by loss, whether it is by divorce, the death of a loved one, or by abandonment, is real pain. There will be moments when it may appear overwhelming and tempting to close one’s heart as to never love again. A closed heart produces a root of bitterness whereby many others are defiled. They will either be burdened down by depression or vindictive as a protective mechanism in one’s defense. In either case, much damage is done to the soul. The heart must be opened in order to allow another person in. Jesus knows what we need and is ready at all times to meet our deepest need. John needed a mother to comfort him at the departure of his best friend. A mother can be confided in where even a man who may be reluctant to express his tender side can cry in her arms. Additionally, a mother also needs a child. There is a special connection between mothers and sons. She is his role model of femininity just as fathers are role models to their daughters of masculinity. Jesus received His nurturing from His mother. She was there from the beginning and was determined to be there at the end.

What Jesus knew and promised was that His absence would be temporary. He would rise from the dead, but not as the Son of Mary or the Son of man, but in His resurrected body as the Son of God. His Spirit filled His followers, including the mother that once knew Him as her Son. It is the Spirit of the Son of God that makes all earthly relationships meaningful. Mothers can be godly mothers when the Spirit of God’s Son has enveloped them. Sons can be godly sons when the His Spirit interprets the truest meaning of life and relationships. Let His love arise in your hearts—mothers and sons, fathers and daughters, in order to make you completely whole.

Meditation: March 17

“You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.” Psalm 65:11

Whatever happens and however it may happen, God ends with the placement of His crown of goodness. That is why He is called good even when things happen that are difficult to explain. When there are valleys there also must be mountains. The deeper the valley indicates the higher the mountain must be. Valley experiences are not always fatal. They can be but not necessarily must be fatal. His path is frightening to the fainthearted. Every wall in the valley contains a message that you have reached the point of no return. But as long as you are aware that He is leading you, you can trust Him throughout the journey. A crown awaits you at the end of the season of testing. Not only is there a crown, but there are rich blessings to be gathered along the way.

Meditation: March 7

“For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” Psalm 36:9

The initial light of God leads us to greater light. We see Him as Redeemer and we are saved from the penalty of sin. The entryway into His grace has been provided as His light has shined upon us. But there is light shining on the path inviting us to enter in. It is not enough to enter in a park at the gateway of all that has been provided for us in Jesus Christ. The things that accompany salvation is awaiting us within the vast areas of exploration of blessings and joy that can only be experienced once we have passed beyond the Outer Courts and are will to enter into the Holy of Holies. The further we are willing to be led, the deeper the level of intimacy we are enabled to experience. His light leads to the fountain of life. We are able to drink from the fountain that spring forth into everlasting life. When Jesus Christ becomes life to us, we can then live the abundant life. The pleasure of knowing the Father as He is known by the Son is made known to us. Lord, lead us to the greater light so that we may be able to see You and be blinded to the distractions of the flesh, the world and the devil.

Meditation: February 25

“Think of it! One solitary man when I called him, but once I blessed him, he multiplied.” Isaiah 51:2 (MSG)

Abraham was blessed to be called and called to be blessed. He was one man standing alone but obedient to God. He was awaiting his assignment after having received the promise of blessings. When our future is in His hands, we can rely on His promises regardless of the current circumstances. God calls us alone. He calls us to Himself to personally respond to whatever He commands. Only then are we in the position for increase. Some are waiting for the party to join them before they move beyond their present state. The blessings accompany us along the way even if we have to travel down the lonely road less traveled. He is with us to guide us along the way. Then He will bless with blessings that none can take away. The continual blessings of God will go from generation to generation.

Meditation: February 22

“And yet I show you a more excellent way.” 1 Corinthians 12:31

The order of the Church and our lives is to be arranged by the Holy Spirit. He guides us through the gifts that were given to the Church on the Day of Pentecost. Though many gifted people have not fully understood what it would take in order to get the most out of what was left after Jesus’ ascent into heaven. We are to earnestly desire to be endowed with the blessings, which are the extension of His work on the earth. He works through His Body, which is the Church. When gifts are given, the potential for change is present. The gifted are the called, which are endowed to be a blessing to others. But the way they are used may be to the best of their abilities yet they may still fall short of the intended results of God. When the gifts are given, the way to exercise them must be shown. A way that is more excellent than the best we are within ourselves able to offer. It is the way of love. Only then can we flow in the gifts without trying to take ownership of them. It is then God working in us to do what He alone is able to do. He loves through us and reaches the hearts and lives of people that He is willing to touch. There are ways known and unknown to us, but we must allow ourselves to be shown a more excellent way.

Meditation: February 21

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.” Hebrew 10:35

Once confidence has been attained, there is nothing standing between God’s promise and the fulfillment of the promise. To trust in the Lord with all of our heart comes as a gift to the believer. This is a level of trust that does not demand further evidence, but stands on God’s integrity as our guarantee. The only entryway available to the adversary is when we cast aside what we over time have attained. We must guard what is most precious from the allurement of the enemy. His objective is to cause us to surrender what is able to bring us into the promised reward. It may be closer than we think, thus the attacks may escalate. Don’t treat what is most precious as being useless because the promised blessings are not in sight. Reaping His promised blessings lie ahead if we do not lose heart.

Meditation: February 11

“For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” 2 Timothy 1:12

The knowledge of God is the hinge on which all other truths believed must be attached to. When we know Him, we are in hot pursuit of knowing more because we are enabled to trust His Word that more is there for us. Not only does He provide for us what we need, but He also preserves all things committed to Him. Our blessings are not short-lived, but permanently established with the strength to endure the strain of offenses and the temptations of attractions that would restrict us from the endless enjoyment awaiting us in that Day of the Lord. We can rest in the fact that He is able to keep us and keep it secure. Thank God for His endless love that penetrates and preserves the things that matter most!
